As we enter into the new year Dwayne takes the time to refocus, regroup, and reconnect with his inner self. Still impassioned from Paris Design Week, he reminisces on the days of strolling down Parisian streets, indulging the senses, feeding inspiration, and connecting with the design community.
Designer furniture, textiles, decorative pieces and homeware stretched as far as the eye can see. Dwayne seeks reconnection and finds inspiration amongst the design community’s most illustrious destination events. Considered the “fashion week for the interior’s industry”, with more than 100 showrooms, Paris Déco Off showcases emerging trends in fabrics, wallcoverings, and passementerie. It wouldn’t be Déco Off without attending the American Party in Paris, hosted by US showrooms as a means of welcoming designers to the City of Love. Coinciding with the semi-annual, Maison&Objet Paris where brands, designers, artisans, and industry experts from around the world gathered under the theme of ‘Take Care’, which prioritized the care of one another, of our expertise and the environment.
A collective consciousness of honoring craftsmanship and the planet rippled through the industry’s tastemakers, inspiring a meaningful purpose-driven future for the lifestyle and design industry. Surrounded by an eclectic selection of the most innovative brands and newest products from around the world, Dwayne felt most inspired at the intersection of the different cultures preserving traditional artisanal trades and propelling them into the future. Young brands and centuries-old firms alike are all devoted to ensure this valuable heritage gets passed down to the generations to come.
Continuing the celebration of the best in creation and design, Dwayne taps into his affinity for fashion at the House of Dior and Elsa Schiaparelli’s Exhibition entitled, Shocking! Les mondes surréalistes d’Elsa Schiaparelli (Shocking! The Surreal World of Elsa Schiaparelli). Bearing witness to the centuries-long legacy of these ateliers, their techniques and commitment to the craft, Dwayne is reminded of the power of artistry.
