This month, we’re kicking off a new miniseries called House Tour, where we’ll revisit some of Dwayne Bergmann Interiors’ past projects for a look back at what made them so special. From palatial residences to renowned public spaces, they each share the common thread of Dwayne and his team’s expertise and precision. The timelessness of those interiors meets the challenges of creating the life his clients want to live in these spaces with staying power. First up, the pair of mother/daughter dream homes in idyllic Valparaiso, Indiana.
No idea was too over the top for the mother and daughter duo that share a love of glamour, fashion, and showstopping architectural details. It was the latter of the two who sought out Dwayne for his ability to infuse a home with dimension and personality by designing with abandon and taking risks. For both the mother and daughter’s homes, 5,500 square feet and 6,500 square feet respectively, Dwayne delivered interiors that are “created” not curated and defy the typical cookie cutter aesthetic of their neighbors. Both generations describe Valparaiso as a “quaint, Mayberry-esque town emerging from a Norman Rockwell painting” despite being commuter-distance to Chicago. They tasked Dwayne to push the limits, both professionally and personally, which is something he sought to capture, working one-on-one with the homeowners to design both homes, the mother’s being a renovation and the daughter’s a new build.
Both properties feature Dwayne Bergmann’s own line of custom cabinetry, defining the kitchens as the undeniable focal point of each home. The matriarch’s gold gilded floor-to-ceiling cabinetry provides a dramatic backdrop to the modern minimalism curvature of the double island. Meanwhile, across town, her daughter’s airy open floor plan is expanded and enhanced with an antique gold mirror backsplash and island. Both women have a love of dance, self-expression and the luxe life; Mom being a builder-turned-competitive ballroom dancer and her daughter requesting a fully functional dance club in her lower level, complete with theater lights, mirror balls, and a top-of-the-line A/V system. He introduced custom furniture, carefully selected art, glamorous lighting, and “wow” moments to compliment the statement architecture of the two distinctly stunning properties. Their mutual love of fashion and style takes center stage in each room of their respective homes.
One of the industry’s most beloved showhouses, Holiday House by Founder Iris Dankner saw the challenge of canceled in-person events of recent years as an opportunity. She and her incredible team partnered up with HGTV to reach an even wider audience with a virtual version of the “house”. Dwayne was selected to join an illustrious group of designers from across the country to share a recent project that, when woven together, create a complete home. One of the two magnificent homes he designed in Valparaiso, IN featuring a stunning statement mural wall was selected for its “wow” factor and undeniable glamour.
